BRIEF BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Professor Fisberg, 54 years old, received his degree in Medicine, by the Escola Paulista de Medicina (now Federal University of Sao Paulo - UNIFESP), in 1976, Has completed residence in pediatrics, at the same university in 1978. In 1980 and 1981 has been a fellow of United Nations University, at INTA (Food Technology and Nutrition Institute) at University of Chile, as member of the World Hunger Program of the United Nation University-UNU. In 1987 has received his Ph.D degree at Federal University of Sao Paulo, in Pediatric Nutrition. After that was registered at this university as adjunct professor at the Nutrition sector, in Pediatrics department, as a faculty member. In 1988 was elected head of the Nutrition and Metabolism Sector of the Pediatric Department, until 1995.
In 1992-3, was appointed fellow of the Kellogg’s Foundation, as part of the Leadership Program, Partners of the Americas, group VII.
In 1997 has moved to the Adolescent sector of the Pediatric Department in the Federal University of Sao Paulo, as a director for 10 years. Now is the clinical coordinator of this department and Associate Professor of Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo- UNIFESP.
Dr Fisberg was also president (twice) and general secretary of the Latin American Society for Pediatric Research. Is also member of the Nutrition department of the Brazilian Pediatric Society since 1988. In the last 5 years is the scientific coordinator of the Healthy Life Style Task Force of ILSI Brazil, and has worked as nutritional advisor for many industries and projects. Is also the director of Nutrociencia, a nutrition consultation office.
Has published more than 120 papers in national and international papers, more than 40 chapters in nutrition and pediatric books all over the world. Has given more than 250 conferences in Brazil, South and Central America, Mexico, Canada and USA, and in Europe and Asia. Has published 5 books in nutrition and pediatrics and was editor of the Obesity report of the Fispghan 2005. In the last 2 year has published two nutrition book for lay people= Living Well Diet and Wheat ( health and Disease).
His main topics of research are nutrition in adolescents, specially obesity and nutritional disorders, appetite, and nutritional evaluation of at risk population.
Interests= obesity, metabolic syndrome, nutritional evaluation of risk population and micronutrient supplementation, adolescence.
